Florida Black Business Investment Board (FBBIB)
Mortlake Nembhard is the youngest of three children born to two schoolteachers on the island of Jamaica.
Mr. Nembhard received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Prairie View A&M University, Texas, and a Master of Arts degree with specialization in Public Administration from the University of Florida.
He has also been certified as a Micro Entrepreneurship instructor by the NxLevel Education Foundation.
has spent much of his
career in economic development with an emphasis on workforce development.
spent a year teaching and counseling youth at the Gainesville Job Corps Center
then spent nine years with the North Central Florida Regional Planning Council as an administrator for a federally funded employment and training program in an eleven county territory.
Following that he established BCN Associates, Inc., a management consulting firm for which he serves as President & CEO.
Among their various engagements his firm has consulted to the Florida Governor's Office of Urban Opportunity, the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation, and served as the administrative and fiscal manager of the Alachua/Bradford Regional Workforce Board and the East Gainesville Development Corporation.
Mr. Nembhard was initially appointed by Governor Bush and reappointed by Governor Crist as Chairman of the Florida Black Business Investment Board, he is also the immediate past Chairman of the Friends of Channel Five (WUFT Public Broadcasting).
He was a founding member and twice President of the 100 Black Men of Greater Gainesville, Inc., as well as a founding member of the Board of Trustees for Altrusa House of Gainesville, a senior citizens daycare facility, and a former member of the Board of Directors for the East Gainesville Development Task Force.
has participated in and received leadership training through the New York Times' Gainesville Focus on Leadership program as well as Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce's
Leadership Gainesville program.
is the father of three children: two sons Blair and Tavian; and one daughter Peyton.
is married to the former Stephanie Robinson of Gainesville, Florida.
