Royal Bank of Canada announced that Morten Friis, Chief Risk Officer (CRO), will be retiring effective January 10, 2014 after more than 30 years with RBC.
has made an exceptional contribution during his
distinguished career at the bank.
Mr. Friis joined RBC in 1979 and has worked in many different divisions including Project Finance, Corporate Banking, Fixed Income, Business Banking and RBC's financial institution business.
He was appointed chief risk officer in 2004 and joined RBC's Group Executive, the bank's senior management committee, in 2009.

Morten has 34 years financial services experience, most recently as chief risk officer for the Royal Bank of Canada. In that role he was accountable for the strategic management of risk on an enterprise-wide basis.
He was also a member of RBC's Group Executive, which sets the overall strategic direction of RBC.
Morten joined RBC in 1979 and was appointed chief risk officer in 2004.
Prior to this position, he was executive vice-president and chief credit officer for RBC.
He joined RBC's Group Risk Management in 1997 as a senior vice-president with primary responsibility for credit and counterparty risk issues.
In his career with RBC, Morten worked in many different areas including Project Finance, Corporate Banking, Fixed Income, Business Banking and RBC's financial institution business.
Morten has been appointed to the Board of the Royal Bank of Scotland and will be a member of the group audit committee and the board risk committee.
He is also on the boards of the Harvard Business School Club of Toronto, the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research and the Philadelphia-based Risk Management Association.
Morten has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Queen's University and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
