St. George Parish and Monsignor Joe Anderlonis celebrate milestones | Read More... | Comments?Community News : St. George Parish and Monsignor Joe Anderlonis celebrate milestonesBorn and raised in Bridesburg in 1944, Anderlonis attended St. Andrews, All Saints, Father Judge High School and then entered the Archdiocese Seminary of St. Charles Borromeo in Overbrook.Completing the B.A. degree with highest honors in 1966, he was selected to pursue advanced studies in Rome at the North American College.As a resident of the college, he was a student at the Jesuit Pontifical Gregorian University.He received a B.A. in Sacred Theology in 1968 and the Licentiate Degree in 1970.He was ordained to the priesthood in St. Peter's Basilica, Rome, on December 19, 1969.In 1970, Monsignor returned to the Philadelphia area as assistant pastor of Resurrection Parish in Chester, PA and also served as an associate pastor of Old St. Mary's, the Basilica-Cathedral of Sts.Father Anderlonis undertook post-graduate study in Rome at the Gregorian University in dogmatic theology during the years of 1974-1977.Returning to the States, he served on the faculty of Neumann College as assistant professor of theology and as chaplain until 1982.It was in 1982 when Father Anderlonis was appointed as pastor of St. George Parish in Port Richmond, a mere stone's throw from his boyhood home.In his 25 years at the head of this parish, he has spearheaded the addition of a preschool, kindergarten and construction of two new classrooms as well as become not only a spiritual but a beloved and respected community leader as well in the neighborhood of Port Richmond.In 1988 he was named a Prelate of Honor to His Holiness, John Paul II with the Title of Monsignor.Monsignor Anderlonis celebrates his 25th Anniversary at St. George Parish, along with the parish's 105th Anniversary this Sunday with a special Celebration Mass and cocktail reception afterwards in the church hall.•
