Hoping to open doors as it grows, Second Chance will move to the mainboard. 'It's hard to prove, but I believe it does help the way people talk to you,' said the company's chairman Mohamed Salleh.Second Chance, which now owns 50 retail units valued at some $72 million, plans to boost its property portfolio to $100 million by June 30, 2005.Mr Salleh said loans will fund 70 per cent of the new investments and creditors 'tend to be more relaxed' when dealing with a mainboard company.Tanjong Katong Complex, where Second Chance's flagship store sits, is also earmarked for redevelopment by 2012, and the company has been investing in nearby City Plaza to prepare for the change.Mr Salleh said the plan is to develop City Plaza into a mall for Malays, Second Chance's target market.Along those lines, Second Chance will expand its retail activities into mobile phones and accessories, consumer optical products and food and beverage operations aimed at the Malay community. But with a saturated Singapore market, much of Second Chance's growth lies overseas, Mr Salleh said. The company is expanding its women's apparel retail business regionally, and a mainboard status could help with joint ventures if the need arises, he said.Second Chance shares have recorded average daily volume of 63,000 units during the past year.
