Officer Mitchell Rennick arrived on the scene to find witnesses saying the vehicle had turned onto Courtright Avenue, according to a police affidavit.
The officer turned onto West Hollenback Avenue, lights and siren blaring, and then southbound on North Main Street.
Rennick saw a maroon Lincoln Navigator with heavy damage to the left rear, with the bumper dragging behind on the pavement, turn from Courtright to Main, according to the affidavit.
The officer pulled in front of it, and the vehicle stopped.
got out of his
cruiser and approached the driver, who was already getting out of the SUV, and ordered him to turn over the key and to get back inside, the affidavit says.
ordered Jean-Louis out of the vehicle and tried to get his wrists to detain him when Jean-Louis pulled away and began running down Main and onto Courtright, police said.
