Director: Prof. Mitchell Bunkin - bhive(at)

Mitch has been interested in learning about isolated communities for most of his life. He has been in touch with Pitcairn Island off and on since 1955. Mitch and his wife Sue personally know many of those presently living on Pitcairn, as well as Pitcairners living in Australia, New Zealand and Norfolk Island. They spent almost a month on Pitcairn in 1993 which only served to strengthen the affection they have for the islanders. Mitch has some photos of Pitcairn today, as well as 50 years ago posted in the TRAVEL section of his website, He also collects rare books and relics relating to Pitcairn and its inhabitants. While Mitch is not a stamp collector, he is somewhat knowledgeable about philatelic issues.
Mitch Bunkin lives in a semi-rural area known as Bucks County, midway between Philadelphia and Allentown. He has been on the Social Sciences faculty of Bucks County Community College since 1968. He collects paintings by Pennsylvania Impressionist artists and helped research a book on the subject. Mitch served for 10 years as President of his township's land conservancy and presently 1/3 of his township's land has been saved as open space. Mitch also actively participates in the local Model "A" Ford club happily tooling around in his 1930 "Town Sedan. A fascination with early American architecture led to the purchase of their 200 year old home which they have tried to keep in close to original condition. Mitch and Sue have two sons and three grandchildren.
