Mirjam Schiller graduated from the Irish National College of Art and Design as a Metals Designer in 2005 with a 2:1 Hons degree, and this was her collection in the Group Show. She was concerned at the time with the need for protection, with heartbreak, delicacy and fragility and visualised this as a glass egg ensconced in an armour-like cocoon.Copyright Mirjam Schiller 2007 site created by fp design email@example.com
Mirjam Schiller has a lot on her mind, and almost none of it's real. She is dedicated to forging and casting her vibrant memories of dangerous and fictional times into small sterling silver "Memory Boxes", precious theatrical lockets and extraordinary occasion jewellery ... a wild legacy of modern romance. Her pieces typically feature cast elements such as wings and hearts; resin-embedded objects; a distinct forged, hammered look; and most importantly a secret compartment in which to keep memories and surprises: Mirjam loves the drama of discovering armour-like, careworn latches, catches, hinges and rivets to open secret doors to cute, tiny and unexpected rooms. With hammers and fire, Mirjam Schiller designs and builds these irreverent but luxurious complex relics from sterling silver in her workshop inArdtarmon Castle on the wild, west coast of Ireland. She loves the purity, delicacy and luxury dormant in the material, which she then blackens and beats the hell out of to make it look like it's lived. Some of Mirjam Schiller's work is currently on exhibition in Skullduggery Art Gallery and Tattoo Parlour, 75 Dublin Road, Belfast, Bodyshock, 13 Upper Fownes St, Temple Bar, Dublin 2 and Artisan, High St. Sligo. Some items in the Spectacorama are still available to buy, please feel free to Contact MirjamShe is currently working on a collection of exclusive, commission-based Wedding jewellery.Thank you for comingCopyright Mirjam Schiller 2007 site created by fp design firstname.lastname@example.org

In art college, Mirjam Schiller frantically researched, drew, stuck, cut, inked, cross hatched and painted crazy creatures and objects and worlds that, in the end, were insanely complicated and really didn't have much to do with whatever she was meant to be building, filling up stacks of white pages with elaborate mayhem, inky tentacles, convoluted cocoons, nightmare creatures, quotes, scratches, photos, painting, plecs, feathers, songs, random things she found in gutters, obsessively recording how the world looks and works, examining beauty and misery in dozens of detailed notebooks.Mirjam started making her first children's book when her godchild Jody was born, to make her something special, a self contained world made up just for her where everything was possible, what is called a Lügengeschichte in German, the kind of thing to make you believe in the improbable and take you away from the ordinary world. So she started drawing and this is what falls out of her fingers.
