Minos X. Kyriakou - Chairman

Minos X. Kyriakou comes from a family known for its shipping activities since the middle of the nineteenth century, when Kyriakou Shipping and Trading Ltd. was first established.
He is shareholder and the Chairman of Athenian Holdings, a global oil shipping business that owns a modern fleet of VLCCs (Very Large Crude Carriers).
In 1988, Mr. Kyriakou first ventured into the world of media by launching one of the first private radio stations in Greece followed by Antenna TV, one of the first private TV stations in Greece. This was the genesis of Antenna Group, of which he is now Chairman.
Mr. Kyriakou is the Chairman of "The Aegean Foundation", a non-profit organization whose activities concern the study and promotion of issues regarding the broader Mediterranean area.
Mr. Kyriakou is also the Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Singapore in Greece as well as Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Greece.
He has served as Chairman of the Greek National Olympic Committee and President of the International Olympic Academy.

(a holding company), Antel S.A. (a developer of computer software and provider of data transmission services), Antenna Satellite (which broadcasts and distributes television programming in the United States), Antenna Satellite Radio (which operates radio stations in the United States), Antenna RT Satellite Services Ltd. (a holding company), Pacific Broadcast (which broadcasts television programming in Australia through a joint venture) and Chairman of Euroholdings Capital & Investment Corp. Minos Kyriakou was born in Athens in 1942.He was educated in France and Switzerland and whilst working in the United States attended historical studies at Columbia University.He comes from a family active in public service and well known for their services to the Greek nation.

In 1985, Minos Kyriakou founded "THE AEGEAN FOUNDATION", a non-profit organization based in Liechtenstein, with offices in Athens, Cyprus, London, Germany, New York and Washington D.C.He is the President of this Foundation whose activities concern the study and promotion of issues regarding not only the Aegean and the Greek seas, but also the broader Mediterranean area.Minos Kyriakou is also the founder and Chairman of another non-profit organization based in Washington DC by the name of "Mediterranean Affairs Inc."which amongst other activities, publishes an academic international relations journal, the "Mediterranean Quarterly", published by DUKE UNIVERSITY PRESS, under the editorial direction of Mediterranean Affairs Inc.The Advisory Board of this journal includes prominent and globally recognized personalities who have committed themselves to its goals.The Journal's intended readers have been carefully targeted; these are policy-making elite, academia, major "thinks tanks", international and world organizations, legislators and social critics.In 1983, Minos Kyriakou was appointed Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Singapore in Greece and in 1989 he was elected to the Board of Governors of Singapore.Since 1992 he has been the Chairman of the Hellenic-Kuwait Friendship Organization in Greece.In the same year, he was awarded the Golden Sword of Kuwait by H.H. the Amir of Kuwait for his contribution to the liberation of the State of Kuwait.In 1995 he received the highest award of the Kuwait National Assembly.In January 1992, Minos Kyriakou was appointed Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Greece.In recent years, he has been occupying himself with the study of history and has focused his attention on the problems of the Mediterranean countries.He is profoundly aware of the importance of this region for the Western world and of the need for its peaceful development.Minos Kyriakou has written two books: His first book, "THE AEGEAN CRISIS", was published in 1986 and since then has been published in Greek, English, German (1986 1st Book Prize) and Polish.His second book, "SIESTA ON A VOLCANO" deals with the problem of Cyprus and was published in July 1987 both in English and Greek.
Apart from studying history, Minos Kyriakou loves the Arts and owns one of the most impressive Greek collections of paintings and sculptures.He speaks English, French, Italian, Spanish, Polish and Russian.He has two sons aged 33 and 31 and a daughter who is 25.In 2004 he married Mari Konstantatou.Honors: 1984 - Golden Cross of the Legion of Honor - Republic of Poland 1986 - Golden Cross of the Order of St. George 1988 - Golden Medal of Honor - Republic of Cyprus 1995 - Grand Cross of the Order of the Legion of Honor - Republic of Poland The family shipping business officially started in 1852.After his high school studies, between the age of 17 and 19, Minos Kyriakou worked as a seaman and trader in Brazil and USA.In 1965 at the age of 23, he established "Athenian Tankers Inc.", with two small tankers he already owned.He initially built his business on the transportation of vegetable oils.Now he owns one of the largest and most modern independent fleets of SUEZMAX, AFRAMAX and product tankers in the world.In 1976, he established two Oil Trading Corporations, BACOIL INTERNATIONAL and ATHENIAN OIL TRADING INC., which trade petroleum products worldwide.At the age of 38, Minos became the youngest member of the Lloyd's Register of Shipping Committee in London, which oversees some 60 committees.In 1979, he established ATHENIAN AIRLIFT INC. and TRANSAIR INC., both air transport corporations.ATHENIAN is involved in air transport and TRANSAIR in helicopters.In 1980, he established SA INTESTRA in Poland, which is involved in shipping services, oil trade and is a significant shareholder of TECHNOSYSTEM SA, which is involved in electronic manufacturing in Poland.In 1999 Minos Kyriakou expanded his activities by establishing Antenna Group.

In 1991, Minos Kyriakou commenced his first industrial joint venture, together with one of the major European/Italian electronic equipment manufacturers in Poland, under the name of "TECHNOSYSTEM INC."which currently manufactures TV transmitters, microwave communication links, cordless, military telephones and electronic components for radio transmitters.The "KYRIAKOU Group" has offices in Athens, London, Rotterdam, Warsaw, Gdynia, Nicosia, Moscow, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Buenos Aires and Sydney.In 1997, the administration of Panellinios A.C. - the first athletic club ever established in Greece and awarded with "Coupe Olympique" in 1991 from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) - turned to Minos Kyriakou, offering him the reins of the club, which had fallen into a distressing administrative and financial situation.Minos Kyriakou, who used to be an athlete of Panellinios A.C. in the 100m sprint, generously accepted the offer, thus opening a new chapter in the club's history.The Olympic events, in which Panellinios A.C. participates, have since increased from 17 to 22.The number of coaches and athletes has quadrupled whilst the number of new talents nurtured by Panellinios A.C. has multiplied almost tenfold.Today, more than 9 thousand athletes belong to its ranks.Panellinios A.C. thanks to the great performances and records achieved by its athletes in the Olympic Games and other major world meetings is best known as the "Club of the Olympic Champions".Panellinios' facilities, situated in the centre of Athens, cover an area of 8 acres, which includes a 158 meter indoors straight track, the largest in the world.The old facilities have been renovated and expanded, while new ultra-modern sports halls have been built to suit the club's purposes for the 21st century, mainly financed by Mr. Kyriakou's donations.Panellinios A.C. managed to excel and win National championships in almost every Olympic athletic event these past 8 years, under the guidance of Minos Kyriakou's administration.

Furthermore, Mr. Kyriakou is also a member of the IAAF Marketing & Promotion Commission.The Greek Athletics Federation (SEGAS) awarded Minos Kyriakou with the Honorary Life President Prize, whilst in February 2005 his creative activities in the field of athletics were once again met with the general recognition of all Greek sports federations.During its last elections, the Hellenic Olympic Committee decided to honor Minos Kyriakou with the Presidency of HOC.This decision was based on their strong belief that he is the most suitable person to help the Committee surpass the Greek nation's expectations in every sports area as well as on their appreciation of his knowledge and contribution in athletics.Moreover, he is Chairman of the Torch Relay Commission.
