as the winner of the 2009 Presidents' Award.
Minda is a graduating MSW student in the UNC-Greensboro and NC A&T University Joint Master's of Social Work (JMSW) Program.
graduate studies, Minda
has achieved academic excellence by maintaining over a 3.8 grade point average.
was also selected to be a North Carolina Child Welfare Education Collaborative (NC-CWEC) Scholar.
As a NC-CWEC Scholar, Minda
has taken specialized academic courses and trainings designed to help prepare her
as a social worker within the public child welfare system.
is dedicated to assisting and strengthening families, and intends to pursue practice within the area of child protective services.
has fulfilled several leadership roles during her
time as a graduate student.
Minda is currently serving as the elected president of the JMSW class.
Within this role, Minda
has organized monthly meetings and brought speakers and other educational information to the students.
She is also currently serving as a member of the Graduation Reception Planning Committee, and is taking the lead role in organizing the Phi Alpha Honor Society Induction Ceremony.
Minda also serves as the point-person for students by convening monthly with the directors of the JMSW program to discuss issues or concerns that students have and to ensure resolution.
Minda has been an active and continuous member of NASW since 2006, and has been exceedingly involved with the NC Chapter.
From July 2007 to June 2008, Minda served as the Graduate Student Representative for the NASW-NC Board of Directors.
As the Graduate Student Rep, she
was instrumental in serving as the collective voice of all MSW student members of NASW-NC.
was also able to gain valuable knowledge about NASW-NC
, the field of social work, and how a Board functions.
This experience taught Minda
the importance of NASW
and how vital it is to the profession of social work.
Before and after serving as a Board member, Minda volunteered as a member of the NASW-NC Student Conference Planning Committee.
was responsible for reporting on planning progress to the Board of Directors, contacting panelists to serve on break-out session panels, and organizing parking for students and speakers.
became an integral part in making NASW-NC's first student conference a success.
Minda is also a member of NC-ACTS! (North Carolina-Activating Citizenship Through Service!) Ameri-Corp Program.
Ameri-Corp Program is designed to help develop connections between students and the community.
Through this program, Minda
is striving to attain valuable skills and experiences that will enhance her
service as a future social worker in child welfare.
