"There is a real connection," Dr. Milton Reigelman said, "almost a mystical connection between Danville, Kentucky and Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland. As Chair of the Danville Sister Cities Commission, Dr. Reigelman hopes Queen Elizabeth's past visits to Kentucky will inspire the royal couple to embrace the bluegrass as well, especially since Danville and Carrickfergus are sister cities. "Actually as Baron and Baroness of Carrickfergus, since we're they're sister, they're also Baron and Baroness of Danville."

Dr. Reigelman believes a royal visit isn't that far-fetched. He says if the couple makes another North American trip, and they include small-town America, then the choice is obvious. "To get a taste of America, it seems to me, they need to see something besides L.A. and New York and Boston. They need to see Danville," Reigelman said.
Leaders from both cities have often promoted educational and economic exchanges, and Dr. Reigelman hopes the royal couple will visit possibly during the Great American Brass Band Festival or Danville's International Week. However, Reigelman says they're prepared to work around the royal couple's schedule. "If they came tonight at three in the morning, the whole town would be out with signs and flowers."
With hospitality like that, Danvillians hope William and Kate will come to survey the domain they probably didn't realize they had.
Dr. Reigelman, who teaches at Centre College, plans to spend this spring at the school's program in London. He hopes to extend the city's invitation to the royal couple in person.
