...Milo Paz, Chairman of the ACTCC Alpuche, Head of AC Transportation
stated the permits were issued from Belmopan and given to Bambi Alpuche and that Mr. Alpuche was issued a directive from Belmopan to give a license for these two taxis.
...Mr. Milo Paz stated that he and the mayor had met previously to discuss this matter and that they both were angered and felt that the new minister did not follow the guidelines set in the law and the agreement made with the past minister.
The law clearly states that any new permit must first be applied for to the Committee.
...Mr. Milo Paz
then stated the job of the ACTCC
is only to approve, disapprove, and make recommendations and that there are currently eight other applications on hold for over a year waiting for taxi permits. These applicants have approached Milo
and want explanations of how this could happen. The traffic department, warden and police are responsible for enforcing the laws, therefore it is not the ACTCC's position to give fines or remove the vehicle from the island.Mr. Paz
also stated that there have been no communications with the minister and therefore could not give a definitive answer as to whether the vehicles would be allowed to stay or forced to leave.
...It was then agreed by all to continue to try to contact Minister Coye for a meeting with Mayor Elsa Paz, Milo Paz and Alfonso Wiltshire.
...It was also agreed that letters should be written in protest of these permits being issued and signed by the four leaders of the taxi associations, the president of the Taxi Federation, Mayor Elsa Paz, Milo Paz, the Chairman of the Board of the ACTCC and Tom Vidrine, president of the Ambergris Caye Chamber of Commerce.
