"It takes approximately four to five years for a bald eagle to mature," sanctuary naturalist Michael Zeloski tells the audience.
Because of their coloring, juvenile bald eagles are often mistaken for golden eagles, which are also solid brown in color, but very rare in Missouri, Zeloski explains.
After Patriot, a 12-pound, 10-year-old bald eagle that came to the sanctuary as an eaglet (after her nest was blown down during a storm) makes her appearance, a large part of the audience makes its way towards the roped-off area to view and take photographs of the main attractions.
