Rules Committee Member and USIndoor Referee Instructor, Mike Urban, refereed his first adult game when he was 13.
The year before he
first job as a timekeeper for one of the first facilities in Kansas City.
immediately fell in love with the game, starting to play indoor soccer the same year.
Early on, Mike
had the opportunity to work with referees of all levels-from moonlighting professional players of the Kansas City Comets to high-level outdoor officials.
An avid fan and dedicated worker, Mike worked a minimum of six nights a week, acting as a sponge and learning all about officiating.

A referee failed to show up for a game and Mike
first "trial by fire" officiating experience in an adult game.
The 13-year-old had a blast and realized then that officiating was his
was actually too young to continue to referee adult games, he
officiated as many youth games as possible.

In the many years since, Mike hasn't looked back, officiating indoor games now at three facilities, including All American Indoor Sports, where he started in 1985.
In 1993, he accepted a full-time job at All American, where his responsibilities include the supervision and training of referees and the management of youth and adult leagues.
The veteran referee believes a good referee will always listen to criticism.
However, first and foremost, Mike
preaches to his
staff the importance of having an in-depth knowledge of the rules, the pace of play and the players.
Confidence, consistency and a level attitude, he
says, form the backbone of a successful game.
