The Oneida County Office for Aging and Continuing Care is involved in federal and state planning to make sure it's prepared for the growing numbers of dementia patients it expects to serve, said director Michael Romano.
One thing it's already learned, he said: Sometimes the best way to help the patients is to support the caregivers, perhaps by providing respite care. In the end, that keeps patients in the community longer and saves money, he said.
