Detective Mike McPheeters of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department was on patrol at an apartment complex at the corner of Jakes Way and Sierra Highway shortly after 2 p.m. when he spotted a 17-year-old reputed gang member carrying a gun.McPheeters, who knows the teen, called out to him, at which point the teen fled. The detective and his partner pursued the young man, losing him in the complex.McPheeters called the chase in to the Santa Clarita Sheriff's Station at about 2:30 p.m. About eight sheriff's patrol vehicles responded.The area was contained and a K-9 unit was brought in.

Detective Mike McPheeters of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station testified that Scott's dark Mercedes passed him going the opposite direction on Poe Parkway.McPheeters said he was assigned to the area to assist county Fire Department personnel with crowd control.McPheeters said Scott caught his attention when the tires of the Mercedes screeched while it was speeding toward the Scott home."He appeared to be extremely agitated," McPheeters said."He was waving his arms around.
