The Deep Ocean One project, led by Mike McDowell, CEO of a deep-water exploration company Deep Ocean Expeditions, aims to attract more governments to invest in the ocean field by proposing a series of deep ocean exploration projects.

McDowell, whose company was the first operator to take "eco-tourists" to the deck of the Titanic, will also attend Cameron's screening to be held at the director's digital recording studio in Santa Monica.
Cameron's blockbuster Titanic in 1997 has set an all-time box office record in history.
McDowell's two Deep Rover submersibles, later used to explore the hydrothermal vents, appeared in Cameron's latest three-dimensional IMAX documentary. Enditem

Mike McDowell - Expeditions Advisor
A geophysicist in a former life, Mike has built a career from adventure and exploration in some of the most inaccessible regions on Earth and beyond.
A leading innovator in expedition cruising and ecotourism ventures, Mike co-founded Quark Expeditions, the company that pioneered the use of icebreakers to take adventurers into the frozen reaches of the Arctic and Antarctic. Mike was also for many years a director of Adventure Network International, the Antarctic's primary private aviation logistics provider.
In the late 1990's Mike founded Deep Ocean Expeditions, the first company to make abyss-rated submersibles available to the general public. More recently, Mike co-founded Space Adventures, a company successfully offering space travel to the public. In 2007, Mike was one of six Mir submersible divers who successfully dived to the abyssal plain 14,500 ft beneath the North Pole.
Over three decades, Mike has specialized in nurturing bold, 'off-the-wall' concepts from concept to fruition. Through Deep Ocean Expeditions he sees a unique opportunity to combine his passion for adventure with his lifelong interest in science and technology.

The space tourism company, Space Adventures , which is sending Anousheh to the ISS, was co-founded by another SAO Masters student - Mike McDowell. As well as being chairman of the board of Space Adventures, Mike is the founder of Deep Ocean Expeditions and has done numerous deep sea vent dives and has graciously provided SAO with images for our astrobiology course. Mike and his son have just returned to Sydney from their trip to Kazakhstan where they briefly met with Anousheh (who was behind a glass screen but was smiling confidently) and watched the launch which went flawlessly. He promises to send us footage of the launch as soon as he can.

Anousheh commenced her Master of Science (Astronomy) in 2005 and is currently on leave for obvious reasons! Mike commenced his Masters in 2002 and is currently enrolled in Computational Astrophysics. He assures us that he'll be running his numerical simulations from various hotels while on his trip to Kazakhstan...
