Recruiting Director - Mike Markham
Coach Markham brings a unique perspective to coaching at the collegiate level. As the former Chief Referee for the New York Central Area AHAUS (Amateur Hockey Association of the United States) and as a former coach at the Junior A level, he understands, better than most, the need for wide open, aggressive and often physical hockey, delivered with discipline to be successful at this level. He has coached several well know athletes including Brian Gionta of the New Jersey Devils, Robert Esche of the Philadelphia Flyers, but his favorite player is Robbie Schremp, of the newly formed Winnipeg Jets, because of his positive attitude, focused approach to the game, disciplined play, and willingness to work through adversity. In his first meeting with the 2007-08 Pirate Hockey team, Coach Markham reminded the players that they represent themselves, the team, the university, and community at all times. While no stranger to winning, Coach Markham indicated that his most important job is "to mold, teach, and develop" every student athlete, to help them be a better athlete on the ice, and better person off the ice.
