After Mike Graeff was first elected County Coroner, and after 14 years of working with the State, the Graeffs convinced the State to move the Vital Records back to Elbert County in 1996.
This enabled the Graeffs
to manage and issue both birth and death certificates here locally as contractors to the State
of Colorado . No more running to Denver to handle Uncle Zek's affairs, such as proving to the insurance company that he
is indeed dead.
