Power line repair ends radio and TV blackout [cached]

That was frustrating for KCHO chief engineer Mike Birdsill, who spent most of last Saturday driving from Chico to the mountain to repair some problems with that station's equipment, only to learn Monday that power had been knocked out and the translator was down. News [cached]

When power was restored, chief engineer Mike Birdsill discovered that a vacuum tube recently replaced at the transmitter site was malfunctioning.

A replacement part got the stations up and running until Sunday, when power was lost again.
PG&E officials said Monday that the source of the problem hasn't been discovered, though crews have been working in the area all weekend.
The company had no estimate Monday morning as to when power could be restored.
