Mihail Vlasov, formally charged with influence peddling
Politics | nineoclock | April 9th, 2014 at 9:00 PM The suspended president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mihail Vlasov was formally charged with influence peddling after he was caught while receiving a bribe of EUR 200,000 from businessman Gheza Iosif Petroczki, the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) announced yesterday. According to the indictment act, on March 13, Vlasov, in his position of CCIR president and arbitrator of the Court of International Commercial Arbitration within CCIR, demanded from a denouncing witness the sum of EUR 1,000,000, of which he received EUR 200,000 on March 18, 2014. For this sum, prosecutors say that Vlasov promised the denunciator that he will use his influence upon the arbitrators of the Court of International Commercial Arbitration within CCIR invested with solving a case in which the denunciator had the quality of plaintiff and accused and he will convince them to pronounce an arbitral decision favourable to the denunciator. Mihail Vlasov was caught on March 18 with the sum of EUR 200,000 on him. He is on remand since March 19. The suspended president of CCIR was denunciated at the DNA by businessman Gheza Iosif Petroczki. The day when he was caught, Vlasov met the denunciator in a restaurant and "reiterated to him the demand of the sum of EUR 1,000,000 in exchange of the influence he hinted he possessed on the arbitrators of the Court of International Arbitration within the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania. Vlasov also told Petroczki that "the sum of EUR 1,000,000 is not a matter of negotiation anymore, possibly only the deadlines that would be set by the court of arbitration." On the same occasion, Mihail Vlasov "confirmed to the denunciator that initially he should pay the sum of EUR 200,000 and later, after the arbitration court will decide delaying the case, he should pay EUR 300,000 more until the new term," DNA informed. Later, after he would receive the EUR 300,000, Vlasov promised that the court would rule in favour of the denunciator. Mihail Vlasov, formally charged with influence peddling
