Michel Girardin - Designer Michel Girardin, jeweller, designer and manufacturer grew up immersed in the jewellery trade.
Jewellery has been Michel
's passion since childhood, his
family come from a long line of jewellers and watchmakers from Switzerland and so it was that Michel learnt the business at an early age. When old enough to study, Michel went to the Art School of La Chaux De Fonds where he learned all about making jewellery.Michel
also spent time in Israel learning the diamond trade. It was in Israel that Michel's life took a new turn, he
future wife, a New Zealander, and eventually the pair returned to settle in New Zealand.Back in New Zealand Michel continued his interest in the diamond trade, following the GIA diamonds course and graduating at the GIA in Los Angeles.Michel soon became an Alumni member and is still a current member now of the newly formed New Zealand chapter.
Once settled in New Zealand Michel
decided that he
needed to establish a stable business and set up his
jewellery design and manufacturing business thus since 1983 Michel has worked, traded, designed and manufactured jewellery.Michel's love of natural coloured diamonds led to a new name for the new company, but he
treats that that side of the business as more of a hobby, his
main focus still being the jewellery design and manufacturing process.
This new millennium sees Michel
taking on a new challenge, creating exclusive jewellery designs made from platinum and 18karat gold with a Pacific "flavour" in his
work, thus including the Blue pearls, the Black pearls and of course lots of diamonds, for both the New Zealand and export markets. His
work is already being exported to the USA, Switzerland, Tahiti and Noumea.
In recent months Michel's unique designs have been featuring New Zealand's new gem the blue pearl.
