declares candidacy for Niagara County
Lewiston Porter Sentinel, May 19, 2007
Niagara Falls attorney Michael J. Violante
announced earlier this year that he
will be a candidate for Niagara County
, a Republican, is a Niagara Falls resident and has practiced law at all levels in Western New York for more than 30 years.
"The people of Niagara County
are tired of drugs and gangs and the violent crime they breed. We need a comprehensive approach to attacking this problem aggressively," says Violante
.A graduate of Bishop Duffy High School, Boston College, and Suffolk University School of Law, Violante currently serves as the Niagara County public defender.
In that capacity, he
supervises 18 attorneys who practice in all of the criminal courts in Niagara County
, as well as those who practice in Niagara County Family Court.
"While many people believe that violent crime occurs mainly in Niagara Falls, it certainly isn't isolated there. The drugs and gangs that serve as the catalysts to violent crime are in our suburbs, in our high schools, and in our own neighborhoods", added Violante
."As district attorney, I will vigorously pursue building more partnerships within our community to attack the causes of these crimes at their root."Violante
, who is married and has four children, believes that he
will bring not only renewed vigor to the district attorney's office, but a fresh perspective on prosecuting crime in Niagara County
"There are many pieces to this puzzle.Block clubs, as well as community policing efforts in schools and in neighborhoods, are important pieces of the puzzle that will help us build a safer community," concluded Violante
