A major shake up came this morning in the case of Michael Terpening when the Barry County prosecutor's office handed the case over to the Michigan Attorney General's office.

This development raises questions about the validity of comments made by Terpening Follower, Jennifer who's accused the prosecutor of contacting Michael Terpening by an assistant prosecutor resulted in an apology made by the assistant prosecutor in front of the judge on the record. Now the prosecutors can appear in the case as the Michigan Attorney General will prosecute Michael Terpening.
The move follows additional law enforcement activity reported by the Terpening Followers, including new police interviews with people close to the case and the seizing of tax returns by Michigan State Police. Michael Terpening, Michigan Attorney General
Did Terpening push too hard? One can assume the Attorney General's office has been involved with the case longer than 8:15 AM today when Terpening's lawyer learned Barry County was leaving the case.
Since Mr. Terpening and the Followers have demanded the good offices of the Attorney General come to bear in his prosecution, will he still be able to claim corruption if the case does not go his way?

Director Mike Terpening said the nonprofit animal rescue, located on two farms straddling Jenkins Road in Assyria Township, normally has cared for a few dozen horses, ponies, donkeys and mules each winter since 1999.

On Monday, however, there were 103 equines in its barns and fields which had been rescued from allegedly abusive owners, saved from kill pens and rehabilitated for therapeutic training.
Terpening said a stockpile of hay for the winter is already three-fourths depleted, "and the winter's just beginning."
He suspects the poor economy has something to do with the increase in neglected horses this fall.
Most equines eat pasture grasses during the warm months, but it can cost hundreds of dollars each year to feed a horse on hay when the ground doesn't produce free food, he said.
Owners cutting back on financial luxuries might be tempted to limit dental and hoof trimmings for their horses. But horses need to have their teeth filed regularly in order to properly chew and digest all the nutrients in their food, he said.
Pressure from animal rights groups closed the nation's last three slaughterhouses in 2007, a move which drove the price per pound so low that "skinny" horses are not worth the cost of transporting them to Canada or Mexico, Terpening said.
Owners have to pay to auction them or hire a veterinarian to put them down -- either option costs money, he said. Many are left to starve.
"It's so sad," Terpening said.
Monday, he reached out to pet a shaggy beauty, which he said was "skeletal" when it arrived a couple months ago.
Terpening said they will euthanize horses in rare cases, but he hopes all of his adoptable animals, including cats, dogs, goats and others, will find homes.
