Michael Smyth CBE, was chairman of Public Concern at Work from 2001 to 2011.
He was formerly a partner at Clifford Chance, leading the public policy and government affairs practice and also had overall responsibility for its pro bono activities. Michael is a public member of the Press Complaints Commission. Michael Woodford OBE, The former President and CEO of the Olympus Corporation, who was forced to blow the whistle on his own company, and in doing so exposed a $1.7 billion fraud. He was awarded 'Business Person of the Year' in The Independent, The Sunday Times, The Sun and was the Financial Times 'Boldness in Business' winner' in 2012. In March 2013 he was awarded the inaugural Contrarian Prize. He now spends much of his time promoting governance and fairness in the workplace. He was latterly global head of public policy and government relations at Clifford Chance and also had responsibility for the firm's administrative law, media litigation and pro bono practices. He remains a prominent expert on legal issues affecting public policy and administration. In the past The Times Law 100 has voted him one of the UK's 100 most influential lawyers, and the London Evening Standard voted him one of London's 1000 most influential people. He is also an author, commentator and visiting professor. Michael has operated at the interface of government, regulators, NGOs, the City, think tanks, the third sector, professional bodies and business generally. He is actively involved in the voluntary sector and is chairman of several organisations including Community Links and Law for Life, the foundation for public legal education. Michael has an MA from Clare College, Cambridge.
