Mike Hutson's Story
Mike Hutson was born and raised in Central California. It wasn't until he entered the US Army that he even considered a career in the medical field. He had always wanted to be a Major League Baseball player (and actually did play minor league baseball for a while). During his three year enlistment as medical corpsman his interest in medicine grew. He realized he wanted to make health care his career.
Mike enrolled and completed the PA program at the University of Washington. Medicine came naturally to Mike. He was able to move on from the baseball dream because he found that he loved medicine and understood it. After graduating in 1973 he moved to Fairbanks, Alaska where he would live for the next 24 years. In 1997 he and his wife were ready to leave the cold weather. They chose to move to Arizona where he immediately began working at Warner Family Practice.
"It is nice to be able to improve someone's life. It's rewarding to see a light turn on inside a patient's mind when their medical situation finally makes sense to them. It's also wonderful to experience success whenever addressing a treatable illness."
Mike has been at Warner Family Practice for many years and in that time he has seen how an emphasis on preventative care truly impacts a patient's life in a positive way. Together, he and his patients will take care of potential problems before they become actual problems. He realizes a lot of providers look at medicine as the art of reacting - he would rather anticipate a stroke or heart attack and address those pending issues long before they become reality.
"Success is when I am able to say the right thing and a patient who previously didn't 'get it' all of the sudden experiences an "aha" moment. There are many times where this has happened after seeing the patients for months or years and every time it is very satisfying."
Through much experience Mike realizes that the best way to serve patients is to be a good listener, to withhold any judgement and practice patience.
