Dr. Michael Hood graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Memphis. Dr. Hood completed his internship and residency in Family Practice at East Tennessee State University - James H. Quillen College of Medicine in Bristol. He is Board Certified in Family Practice and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Currently, he is an assistant clinical professor of the James H. Quillen College of Medicine at ETSU. Dr. Hood is an examiner for the F.A.A. for pilot physicals. He is currently president of the Newport Theatre Guild.

Dr. Michael Hood, a representative for the Newport Theatre Guild, said he wanted to thank everyone involved in the production of "A Christmas Carol" at Cocke County High School as well as everyone who came to enjoy a truly fantastic performance by the cast and crew."This was our first big musical and because of the great attendance we made about $4,000 to go toward future productions," said Hood.Cocke County Mayor Iliff McMahan Jr. said it was an exceptional performance, as he has seen about 40 Christmas Carol plays and this one ranks at the top because of the performances of the cast, choir and full orchestra, which is rarely done at this play.Hood said the guild's next production will be "Plaza Suite," which is a Neil Simon play that will be directed by Clyde Dunn and performed at Newport Grammar School the last two weekends in March.

The defense's main witness in the morning was Newport physician Dr. Michael Hood. Hood, who is also an assistant professor at the James H. Quillen School of Medicine for East Tennessee State University, acknowledged a manual from the school showed a doctor performing a genital exam without gloves.
Having reviewed the medical records of the patients, Hood said the exams performed by Hood were "acceptable" procedure.
