Michael Granoff, president of Pomona Capital in New York City, rarely looks at single-company parcels from clients.
But, he says, If an angel who owns an interest in 10 companies wants to sell them, we might take a look at it. More common, though, would be for us to purchase someones limited partnership stake in one of the A-player venture capital funds, where we know that the portfolio companies are being managed by some of the best people in the business. There is some movement toward creating a secondary market for private-equity deals, though, and many investors see it as inevitable that such efforts will grow. Says Granoff, We are at an inflection point, where there will be a demand for more liquidity across the board.
