Michael Goedhuis Michael Goedhuis Portrait
Michael Goedhuis was born in Holland. He attended school at Eton College and then spent some years at European universities in France and Germany before completing his MBA at the European Institute for Business Administration (INSEAD) in Fontainebleau.
Trained as an economist, he became an investment banker with First Boston Corporation in New York and London. He then worked at Hambros, boosting their commitment to the Eurobond market.
...
Michael Goedhuis opened Michael Goedhuis Ltd in London in 1989. Having worked for 15 years principally in the field of Persian, Indian and Japanese culture, he now works in London and internationally.
The Gallery's principal activities today are the promotion of the best Chinese contemporary art, with a particular focus on ink art, as well as Chinese and Japanese bronzes from the 11th century A.D onwards.
Goedhuis believes that China is currently undergoing a true "Cultural Revolution" which is not confined to art but is manifest in film, music, theatre, design, dance and literature and is leading to a rapid expansion of investment in art by a new generation of collectors.
He believes that contemporary Chinese Ink Painting is still at an early stage of commercial recognition both in Asia and the West. It therefore offers exceptionally exciting and fruitful opportunities for collectors and museums.
The new generation of Chinese collectors is intent on retrieving its great cultural heritage and there is now a major drive to repatriate Chinese art and antiques throughout the world. The gallery's objective is to participate fully in restoring important works to committed institutional and private collections in China as well as stimulating interesting Chinese civilisation both past and present amongst collectors in the West.
