We are excited and honored to announce that Michael J. Fosina, MPH, FACHE, has been elected as our new regent for Metro NY. He has been a long-time supporter of HLNY for many years and the chapter's leadership looks forward to an excellent working partnership with him.
Mr. Fosina has recently been named Senior Vice President of NewYork- Presbyterian and Chief Operating Officer of New York Downtown Hospital. Previously, he was Vice President and Executive Director of the Allen Hospital of NewYork-Presbyterian, a position he held since 2000.
Michael began his administrative career at the former New York Hospital and has over twenty-five years of health care management experience. For the past thirteen years, he served as Vice President and Executive Director of NewYork- Presbyterian/Allen Hospital. At NYP/Allen, he successfully led strategic clini- cal expansion, day-to-day operations, focusing on quality and patient safety, building relationships with staff, physicians and the community, and maintaining the Hospital's financial and operational strength. Prior to this, Michael was the Director of Integration and Accreditation for the newly merged NewYork- Presbyterian Hospital; in that role he help integrate the campuses and coordi- nated the first Joint Commission and Title 18 survey for the new entity.
Michael received his undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware and his master's degree from the Columbia University School of Public Health. He is Board Certified in Healthcare Management, and a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. In addition, he was a Health and Aging Policy Fellow and Congressional Fellow. Vice President and Executive Director New York Presbyterian/Allen Hospital
Michael J. Fosina, MPH, FACHE, has spent over twenty years at the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital (NYP) and is currently a member of the senior management team as the Vice President and Executive Director of NYP/The Allen Hospital. In his eleven years in this position, he has helped make The Allen Hospital a premier community teaching hospital and trusted health care provider for the communities of Manhattan, the Bronx and beyond. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and is board certified in healthcare management.
He was also instrumental in creating both a Division of Geriatric Medicine and Aging and a Division of Podiatry at Columbia University Medical Center and NYP. He has focuses a significant amount of his time working with the local nursing homes on transition of care issues. Mr. Fosina has enhanced the use information technology at the campus and uses it to leverage the clinical expertise of the academic centers of NewYork-Presbyterian. In his previous role, he helped facilitate the one of the largest hospital mergers in the country between The New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. Through his efforts, the hospital achieved success through its first JCAHO survey as a newly merged entity.
Mr. Fosina received his BS from the University of Delaware and his graduate degree from Columbia University School of Public Health. Mr. Fosina has spoken in a JCAHO national broadcast on designing Environment of Care programs for hospitals. In addition, he has lectured on Patient Safety initiatives and other healthcare issues both regionally and nationally. Mr. Fosina is active on the Boards of numerous community organizations and has received several awards for both his professional accomplishments and his community work. Most recently he was honored by the ACHE as the Senior Regent Award winner for his contributions to the Advancement of Health Care Management Excellence.

Michael J. Fosina, M.P.H., F.A.C.H.E., vice president and executive director of NewYork-Presbyterian/The Allen Hospital, was honored as a 2011 American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Senior Regent's Award Winner by the Healthcare Leaders of New York.
Based in Chicago, the ACHE is an international professional society of more than 30,000 health care executives who lead hospitals, health care systems and other health care organizations. The award, which was presented June 15 during the HLNY's Annual Gala in East Meadow, N.Y., recognizes ACHE fellows who have made significant contributions to the advancement of health care management excellence.
"I am pleased and honored to receive this award, and I am very proud of the work we've done to advance patient safety and quality, increase volume and expand services, making NewYork-Presbyterian/The Allen Hospital a premiere community teaching hospital and trusted health care destination for the communities of northern Manhattan, the Bronx and beyond," says Mr. Fosina.
Prior to assuming his current role at The Allen Hospital in 2000, Mr. Fosina was the director of Integration and Accreditation for the newly merged NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Mr. Fosina began his administrative career at the former New York Hospital, where he held several leadership positions. He has been a speaker in The Joint Commission national broadcasts and has lectured on patient safety initiatives and other health care issues both regionally and nationally. He is an active member on numerous boards of community organizations and is a recipient of several awards for his community work. He is board certified in health care management and a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware and his master's degree from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. Mr. Fosina currently lives in New Rochelle, N.Y. with his family.
Mr. Fosina was also recently honored by the Riverdale Senior Services at its 37th Anniversary Spring Celebration for his ongoing support of the organization, of which he is a past president.
