Caritas St. Elizabeth's Medical Center announced today that its physicians have selected Arlington resident, Michael Foley, M.D., as the new medical staff president.During his two-year term, Dr. Foley will serve as the chief administrative officer for the medical staff.In his new role, he will serve as chairman of the medical executive committee and as a member of several other influential bodies at the medical center, including the patient care assessment committee.Dr. Foley has been a gastroenterologist at Caritas St. Elizabeth's Medical Center since 1981, but his history with the institution is life-long.He was born at St. Elizabeth's in 1950, and did his post-medical school training here in the late 1970s.He
is a visible presence almost every day on the gastrointestinal service, visiting inpatients or staffing the GI clinic.He
also maintains a community practice in Arlington."We have a wonderful medical staff - as good as you will find anywhere," said Dr. Foley, medical staff president at Caritas St. Elizabeth's Medical Center.
"Members of our medical staff should feel good about themselves and their roles in New England and the community."
On a community level, Dr. Foley
asserts that the medical staff and Caritas St. Elizabeth's should be vigilant about maintaining a holistic approach to the health of surrounding neighborhoods.This includes keeping abreast of a wide range of developments, he
says, whether it is funding for the flu shot program, support for pediatric wellness, or how MCAS testing in schools affects the community.Dr. Foley
is a lifetime resident of Arlington where he
lives with his
wife, Anne, and their three children, Michael
, Patrick and Elizabeth.
