During a 30-year career at Goodwill, Elder has overseen services provided to more than 50,000 people. The organization focuses on people's abilities, not disabilities, without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin or age.Goodwill expands the definition of diversity to include people with any barriers to employment. The agency has found employment in the last six years for 120 Asians, more than 6,000 African-Americans, almost 600 Hispanics and 38 Native Americans.
"As our Goodwill employee and volunteer groups have become more diverse, we have gained a better understanding of how to serve our diverse sets of customers," said Elder."With that understanding has come significant success in helping individuals overcome barriers to employment. When people have the opportunity to spend quality time with others from a different place, barriers and stereotypes begin to fade."
