On February 6th, Seattle artist Michael Dupille will visit the Valley School to get inspired by the landscape and people in the Valley community. Mr. Dupille has been commissioned to create a piece of original art for the school, thanks to a program of the Washington State Arts Commission called, Art in Public Places. "I'm honored to have been selected," Dupille said. "When people look back at civilizations, they look at the art and the architecture."
Out of more than 100 artists, Mr. Dupille was chosen because of his impressive resume and his vivid glassworks focus on landscapes, plants and animals, which reflect the natural beauty of our community. He is skilled in a variety of media-animation, illustration, print and textile design. He is the pioneer in a technique called fritography, the fusing of powdered glass (frit) in a kiln to create stunning, highly-detailed works. "Kiln-formed glass goes back to the Egyptians," Dupille said, "But I developed modern kiln-formed techniques in the 80's."

During his two-day visit to the school, Mr. Dupille said that he will mostly look and listen.
