He was a strategic advisor to the Internet Society, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation's Open Education Resources program, and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation's Digital Media and Learning initiative, and even helped launch The International Journal of Learning and Media (ijlm.net).
