Dr. Michael Bohrer has more than 25 years of experience in process development and new product introduction, much of which has been focused on optical fiber technology.
As a Technical Manager at Bell Laboratories and OFS Laboratories he led a group responsible for development of manufacturing processes from pilot-scale to full production capacity.
This group introduced or contributed to many successful optical fiber manufacturing processes including germanium recovery for silica optical fiber manufacturing, sol-gel production of high purity silica tubing, high efficiency fluorine doping and photochlorination of silicon tetrachloride.
group also had responsibility for the design and operation of a pilot-scale polymerization facility for manufacturing lithographic polymer materials used in AT&T's
microelectronics R&D division.
has authored or coauthored 6 technical papers covering optical fiber manufacturing technologies, as well as 28 other articles on polymer synthesis, macromolecular transport through membranes and electronic materials processing.
holds 5 US patents in the field of optical fiber manufacturing.
Dr. Bohrer earned his Ph.D. (Chemical Engineering, 1979) and M.S. (Chemical Engineering, 1976) degrees from Stanford University.
