Michael Aaronson

Mike Aaronson has extensive organisational leadership experience in public and international affairs in both executive and non-executive roles.
Alongside his work with OPM, he is an Honorary Fellow of Nuffield College, Oxford, and Visiting Professor and Executive Director of the Centre for International Intervention at the University of Surrey. From 2006-16 he was Chairman of Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, where he led the Board in the first successful acquisition of one Foundation Trust by another and saw Frimley Park Hospital become the first 'outstanding' hospital in the UK NHS. From 2007-12 he was a Civil Service Commissioner.
Mike began his career as a humanitarian relief worker in Eastern Nigeria, during and after the civil war. This was followed by 16 years in the Diplomatic Service, working variously in Paris, Lagos, and Rangoon and the FCO in London, undertaking political analysis, bilateral negotiations, and representational work.
Mike then enjoyed 17 years with Save the Children, initially as Overseas Director, and subsequently Director General. In this capacity Mike helped to establish the International Save the Children Alliance as a leading global force for children's rights.
He has also served as Chair of the EC-NGO Liaison Committee; as Chair of the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue in Geneva; as a Governor of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy.
