Creek work resented

www.nyjournalnews.com [cached]

"I resent it," said Michael Aamodt who also lives on Van Wardt Place, though he said he understood that if the county didn't repair the wall, a nearby sewer line could be damaged."That has to be fixed."But they're responsible for the creek," he said."If they maintained the creek that might help."After he hit by Hurricane Floyd, which caused Sparkill Creek to overflow its banks and flood anything in its path, neighbors were asked to go to the Sparkill Fire Department for an informational session.Aamodt remembered it well."All bigwigs, big shots," he said.Aamodt, who works for the Orangetown Highway Department, said the least the county could do was use a mucking machine to clear up the sediment. The portion of Sparkill Creek that Aamodt is upset about is the part that runs along Oak Tree Road - public property.Bending over the rail along Oak Tree Road and over the creek, he lowered a measuring tape."Six feet," he declared. When it rains, the creek has reached at least 6 feet high and flooded onto the heavily traveled Oak Tree Road, and into his and his neighbor's homes, he said.
