Mayor Willie W. Herenton and the Office of Multicultural & Religious Affairs (OMRA),Division of Public Services & Neighborhoods takes great pleasure in announcing Mrs. Memina Franklin
as the Volunteer of the Month.
Memina Herrerias (Franklin) was born in Mexico City, Mexico to Ricardo and Carmen O De Hererias.In 1956 she
was crowned Queen of Veracruz, Veracruz.Today she
is married to Ralph E. Franklin.Memina
has lived in the United States for the past 39 years.She
came to Memphis for her
honeymoon and never left.Memina is a graduate of Colegio, Luis G. Leon in Mexico City.She
attended the Universidad Femenina de Mexico with a concentration in the humanities.Memina
also attended the Lycee Technique D' Hotellerie et de Tourisime in Nice France.Memina
was employed with Cruz Blanca Neutral
, a national foundation established to protect children's rights.She was their Public Relations Secretary for seven years.From 1986-88 to the present she is the founder of "Memina's", a Mexican and international style catering service, as well as teaches Mexican Cuisine with the University of Memphis' Continuing Education program.Memina is an accredited legal translator, and a member of the National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators.Mrs. Franklin
enjoys cooking, collecting traditional Mexican regalia, oil painting, guitar playing and helping people.Memina
has been honored on many occasions for her
two decades of volunteer service to the Hispanic community in Memphis.She
has never received pay for the services she
provides day and night.Memina volunteers with St. Jude, and is a member of Madonna Circle and Ladies of Charity
.She is president of the Catholic Hispanic Community in Memphis.Memina
is a volunteer with the Mayor's Office of Multicultural & Religious Affairs.She is a valuable member of the Multicultural Public Relations Committee.Mrs. Franklin
organizes hostesses for the annual Community in Love Celebration.She
allows the hostesses to wear clothing from her
fabulous collection of Mexican regalia.
