Vice President, Academic Programs and Services
Mellie Pouwels joined the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) in 2009 as the program director of the Maintenance of Certification® (MOC) Support Program.
In 2011, Ms. Pouwels was promoted to Vice President, and she assumed an increased level of responsibility for providing ongoing leadership and direction for the continued growth and development of ABMS' MOC educational and support services.
Currently she holds the title of Vice President, Academic Programs and Services, referring to her role in the development of ABMS' programs and services related to certification and MOC.
Ms. Pouwels has over 15 years of experience in continuing medical education, as well as experience in medical student education and community-based training programs.
Prior to her position with ABMS, Ms. Pouwels held senior positions with the Radiological Society of North America and the Northwest Missouri Area Health Education Center.
Ms. Pouwels is a member of the Alliance for Continuing Medical Education (ACME) and has presented at the ACME Annual Conference on faculty development issues, Internet-based CME, and MOC.
On a regional level, Ms. Pouwels has served as a president of the Illinois Alliance for Continuing Medical Education (IACME).
Ms. Pouwels holds a master's degree in Counseling from Loyola Marymount University and a bachelor's degree in Art History from the University of Notre Dame.
