"We were thrilled at the outcome," said Melanie Martinez, Family Care Supervisor.
"There was a wonderful representation of all types of agencies throughout the state."
Although most of those in attendance worked directly with single mothers and their children, Martinez
staff were still surprised to find that other agencies were also interested in the program Family Care was offering.
"It just goes to show that people really need this," Martinez
Of the many breakout sessions, workshops and keynote speakers, Martinez
said the networking aspect struck her
"It was phenomenal," she
"We all came from different faiths, but we were here for one purpose - to strengthen communities by providing resources for people," Martinez
said."Many of them were thrilled to know we are unapologetic in our faith." The Family Care
staff has already planned next year's conference for September 18 and 19, 2008, but a few of the nuts and bolts might change.
"We might try to bring it from Austin to Round Rock next year," said Martinez
