disclosed various initiatives intended to alleviate concerns of persons seeking assistance from the department.
According to Griffin, the Department of Social Services started with just one worker over 50 years ago, but now boasts of a staff compliment of just over 300 workers.
Over the years, much has been accomplished but we know there is still much work to be done and with Godâ s help and the continued support of the public, social services will continue to do its part in eradicating the social ills that beset our wonderful country and to improve the lives of the most vulnerable among us," said Griffin
Noting the fact that the Persons with Disabilities Equal Opportunities Act 2014 was passed in Parliament last July she
expressed pleasure that progress continues within the department.
is eager to see a senior citizens and disability unit opened on the island of Grand Bahama.
There will be a historical impact because, according to Griffin
, when opened that it will be for the first time in the Department of Social Services
that Grand Bahama will be able to boast of a disability unit and a senior citizens unit.
I also thank all of the volunteers and non-governmental organizations who have worked closely with the department in helping to meet our mandate to the Bahamian people," concluded Minister Griffin.
