An unusual aspect of the girls race was that it featured three former SICA West champions, all of whom won their titles as freshmen, Lockport's Liz Phillips (2004) and Lindsay Kotovsky (2003 at Lincoln-Way East) and Sandburg's Melanie Glander (2002).Beside Sutherland, the Eagles received strong showings from Sarah Klaczynski (4th, 18:17.3), Glander (6th, 18:26.3), Michelle Janosz (10th, 18:59.4), Lauren Mulac (11th, 19:00.5), Amanda Janosz (12th, 19:06.3) and Mary Brennan (13th, 19:13.2).

Sandburg's Melanie Glander (21st, 17:49) earned All-State honors for the second time. Sandburg picked up its second two-time all-stater in the girls competition when sophomore Melanie Glander finished 21st in 17:49.A year ago, she was 24th at state.


State Cross Country

On the girls side, Sandburg's Melanie Glander finished 21st with a time of 17:49.She earned All-State honors for the second straight year and is just the second Eagle to do so.Glander's performance helped the Eagles to an 11th-place finish with 335 points.
