Melanie Bandera-Hess, MFT, Vice President
Since 2005, Melanie
has been working with individuals, adolescents and groups.
She began specializing in treating women and girls with eating and body image problems after working at Alta Bates Herrick's eating disorder in-patient program.
has continued helping people overcome eating disorders and also treat those who suffer from problems like depression, anxiety, trauma and family transitions, as well as offering services to pregnant and postpartum mothers and couples as a Birthing from Within Childbirth Mentor and Educator.
has easy rapport with teens and work closely with their families, school counselors, coaches and doctors.
Melanie approaches therapy and treatment with intelligence, humor, playfulness, creativity and critical thinking to help her
clients develop practical skills and to connect to their innate wisdom, wholeness and ability to heal.
I work in a conversational and related way and employ embodied and playful techniques when welcome and appropriate.
As a volunteer and consultant with The Body Positive, Melanie led a weekly Body Positive group at Albany High School during the 2011-2012 school year and helped to train peer leaders in bringing Body Positive awareness to middle schools, high schools and colleges.
Melanie holds a BA in Acting and a MA in Counseling Psychology and am a BBS registered MFT Intern, Supervised by Elizabeth Scott L.C.S.W.
