He is a past director of STARS, a past member of NAIT's Board of Governors and a past chairman of the Pembina Producers Association. Mel has been a Director of Hull Child and Family Services for the past 8 years and recently became a member of the advisory council for the Alberta Land Institute through the University of Alberta.
