He has led the IGBP-IGAC project on biomass burning (BIBEX) and served in Scientific Steering Committees (IGBP) and European Commission Science Panel. His background is in geochemistry and oceanography. His scientific expertise is in oceanography, tropical aerosols, terrestrial, oceanic, and atmospheric chemistry.
