In 2002, with a $5,000 grant from Brown-Forman Corp., VAN hired marketing consultant Meg Higgins of New Blue Creative Communications to develop a plan to educate visitors, buyers and artists about art in Louisville.
"We knew it would take a special person to do this project.Meg
is an artist herself, so we knew she would understand where we were coming from," Devine said.
was never an official name, Higgins
said, but simply how gallery owners had come to refer to the group.
"I recommended changing the name VAN
because it didn't say anything about art," she
"Julius Friedman is an excellent example of an artist here who has been recognized internationally but believes in this city," Higgins
...Higgins obviously believes in the cause; she's been working as a LOOK volunteer since the grant expired in January."My heart and soul are in this project, because I really believe we have an extraordinary art scene in Louisville," she said.
