Mayuto Correa In 1969, Mayuto moved to Los Angeles where his unique style and technical mastery were soon sought after by the most respected names in Latin Jazz, Jazz and pop music. Now, some 35 years later, Mayuto Correa continues to be regarded amongst the best players in Jazz history. He has often been called "the best conga player in the world" by numerous critics including Frank Wilson, Sherman Ferguson, John Levy, Earl Palmer and Sondra Oei. John Dants has called Mayuto "the Coltrane of Congas" and Gabor Szabo touts Mayuto as "a fiery percussionist, full of lyricism and romantic beauty". Billy Higgins calls Mayuto, "the best performer from Brazil since Carmen Miranda".
