speaks at the Australian Centre for Public Communication
Description: Eminent for the development of the theory of media agenda setting, Professor Maxwell McCombs will speak exclusively at the Australian Centre for Public Communication for one evening.
Max McCombs, Professor of Journalism at the University of Texas, Austin, will speak on how agenda setting theory has evolved and how it applies in today's mediascape characterised by audience fragmentation and a plurality of internet media including blogs and 'social' media such as YouTube, MySpace and Facebook.
Media agenda setting theory was introduced in 1972 by Maxwell McCombs
and Donald Shaw, based on their ground-breaking study of the role of the media in the 1968 presidential campaign in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
