Maxine Mawhinney
Now a leading presenter with BBC News 24, Maxine trained as a newspaper journalist in her native Northern Ireland, before working on radio and television for BBC Northern Ireland in Belfast. Since then she has worked for Ulster Television, ITN in London and Sky News, for whom she was their Ireland Correspondent. She was the Washington Correspondent for GMTV between 1992 and 1996, after which she returned to London and the BBC, initially with BBC World, then with BBC News 24. Maxine is married and has two daughters.

Maxine currently presents on BBC News on Saturdays from 10am-4pm and Sundays from 1pm-4pm. Both these shifts include the BBC One Lunchtime Bulletins.
In 1996 Maxine began presenting for the BBC, working as an anchor for BBC World News before joining the BBC News channel on its launch in 1997, initially fronting the overnight bulletins. She later gained a regular weekday shift alongside Chris Eakin and then Matthew Amroliwala, before moving to weekends in 2006. She has also presented BBC Breakfast.

At the launch of GMTV in 1992, she was appointed the channel's Washington correspondent.
Maxine is married with two daughters and a west highland terrier called Mac.
