Pituitary Network Association - Highlights Newsletter - Off the Press PNA Spotlight: Dr. Max Medary This month the PNA Spotlight focuses on Orlando neurosurgeon Dr. Max Medary, Chairman of Surgery at Dr. P. Philipps Hospital and President/CEO of Greater Orlando Neurosurgery & Spine. Dr. Medary is also President and Founder of Orlando Neurosurgical Foundation, a non-profit organization. And he is a Lifetime Professional Member of the PNA. Dr. Medary studied at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and graduated from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He trained in general neurosurgery at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He went to Cornell University to do a research fellowship in neurotrauma, and completed another fellowship in T. Fukushima's Keyhole Microsurgical Techniques while at Allegheny General Hospital. His primary interests include skull base surgery and pituitary surgery in particular. He also studies inflammatory mediators of the brain (cytokine) and endothelial adhesion molecules (ELAM) 2) as well as drug therapy and receptor modulation. We asked Dr. Medary what he thinks is the most important advance in his field: "The internet has allowed patients to become better educated about their disease and provide access to experienced practitioners. In addition, imaging, drug therapy and operative techniques have all improved outcomes." Dr. Medary is a lifetime professional member of the PNA. He says patient education is extremely important. In his practice every patient with a known or suspected adenoma gets referred to the PNA site. The PNA appreciates Dr. Medary!
