Lugazi Diocese's founding Bishop, Dr. Matthias Ssekamanya, has retired.
Rev. Dr. Ssekamanya
was consecrated in Lugazi in early 1997 by His
Eminence Emanuel Cardinal Wamala, while Msgr Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga was consecrated in Kasana-Luwero.
Bishop Ssekamanya served in the National Institutes of the Catholic Church in Uganda, including Katigondo and Ggaba National Seminaries where he was Spiritual Director.
He became Rector of Ggaba between 1981 and 1985.
He was then appointed the auxiliary Bishop of Kampala since 1985 before being transferred to Lugazi Diocese in February 1997.
10 years as the Auxiliary Bishop, he
demonstrated an extra-ordinary leadership in the Pastoral Department of the Archdiocese of Kampala
was in charge of various Archdiocesan commissions which include the: Laity, Pastoral Affairs, Social and Economic Development, Institution Projects, Christian families, Medical services, Parish Projects, Political Affairs, Pontifical Mission Aid societies, Catholic Women's Guild and Rehabilitation.
Munno wishes Bishop Ssekamanya a good retirement and a fruitful ministry to Bishop Kakooza, his successor.
